An hour or hour and a half introductory lectures about ITQS
Basic Introductory Lecture The lecture explores the basic approach developed by ITQS and its implementation in educational, health and community settings.
ITQS stands at the intersection of different approaches and bodies of knowledge. It is the fruit of four professionals (in the north of Israel) who at the turn of the century were looking for a new way to help children develop their own coping skills. In fact they discovered that all from the very young to those of a golden age can benefit by being able to reach inner quiet and that if inner quiet becomes conditioned, a coping skill will be acquired for life. MicroCalming, the conditioned calming technique developed by ITQS, is the key to making inner quiet into a coping tool for all, one which can be used anywhere, at any time. The team also discovered that the ITQS room where MicroCalming is taught needs to be a special environment which provides a profound experiential sense of trust, care and quiet. Such an environment can be created anywhere where people most need it - in kindergartens and schools, in hospitals and welfare institutions, in places of work, in the community and in the home at a reasonable cost.
Quiet in the light of Jewish sources The lecture explores how the Torah relates to quiet and silence.
Quiet and silence are discussed in various parts of the Scriptures – Bible, Mishnah and Talmud and the Zohar. They reflect the importance that the Scriptures attribute to the dimension that is considered higher than speech and melody. This dimension is an integral part of such awesome events as the giving of the Law at Mount Sinai, the death of the High Priest Aaron’s two sons and the Prophet Elijah’s experiences at Mount Horev. It has also been an integral part of our Rabbis’ efforts over the centuries to reach a quiet place inside in order to receive inspiration from above. In addition, reaching quiet today is essential to help us achieve more effective thinking and healthier problem solving. In the very special atmosphere of ITQS we examine the place of words and of quiet, and their relevance to our lives. We examine how ITQS connects to these sources.
